OCI⁺ Oil and Climate Index (plus Gas)
Developed from the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), The Oil Climate Index plus Gas (OCI⁺) is an open-source analytic tool that estimates and compares the life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) of individual oil and gas resources worldwide—from upstream extraction and processing, midstream refining, and downstream shipping and end use consumption. This climate intelligence is used to profile the GHG variation of heterogenous oil and gas resources across distinct stages of the supply chain and according to different global warming potentials. Historic and current production are modeled. And prospective operating scenarios are investigated.
The OCI⁺ is designed to inform a diverse set of stakeholders in mind, from policymakers to industry, the finance sector, and civil society. By making oil and gas climate impacts visible, the OCI⁺ provides strategic inputs stakeholders can use to make more sustainable decisions about oil and gas development, operations, regulations, investing, campaigning, and infrastructure planning.
