(12:30 - 13:30 EET) Materializing the Caribbean Green Hydrogen Opportunity

The Caribbean comprises many volcanic islands with significant untapped geothermal resources and an abundance of other sources of renewable energy such as wind, solar, wave and hydropower. The region remains on the front lines of climate change.  The key to unlocking the region’s potential is to transition to renewables at scale.  The wealth of geothermal, wind, hydropower and solar resources is being viewed as the missing link to developing green industries such as shipping, web3, air travel, and tourism as a whole including regional manufacturing.
Dominica is an island with only 750 km² in land area, and is leading the region's thrust in scaling its renewable energy development with a geothermal resource able to produce over 1000 MWh of power.

The opportunity to harness renewable energy resources towards the creation of new Hydrogen based industries is a model, which can be used by islands to build its resiliency, more so since the Caribbean remains one of the most vulnerable regions globally, with significant impact due to climate change.

Kenesjay Green (Dominica) Limited, a regional private sector partner focussed on the development of green hydrogen, has completed a Country Assessment Report for the Commonwealth of Dominica, which outlined a broad strategy for the use and conversion of the nation’s geothermal resource into new hydrogen derivatives as part of a new industrial eco-park and green refuelling port. The country is also continuing to receive guidance and support from other regional and international partners including the Green Climate Fund (GCF); Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator; Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)/ Caribbean Development Bank (CDB); Republic Bank Limited (RBL); and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF) among others.

The Caribbean's infrastructure for energy, if inter-connected, can lead to the development of a large hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen worldwide. Trinidad and Tobago as one of the largest global producers.
