This event aims at sharing the experiences of some African countries in the development of their just transition frameworks especially as it relates to employment and job creation. Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria have developed Green Jobs Assessment Model and included just transition processes as part of their NDCs. The event is to reflect on the lessons learned in the adoption of this process in the NDC and how it's been funded. Thereby achieving the following:
- key conceptual framework and guidelines for Just transition and, its enabling role in accelerating ambitious climate action.
- Bringing together countries to share experiences principles and processes of just transitioning into Net-zero, discuss challenges and the way forward;
- Discussing the need to overcome the significant risk that without a Just Transition, low carbon, environmentally sustainable economy that is essential to the wellbeing of the future generation will be unachievable;
- socio-economic challenges and opportunities in turning the just transition commitment into concrete actions.
- Financing & implementing just transition initiatives/policies.
- Stakeholders’ engagement and actions towards just transition;
- An inclusive and fair process for green jobs; and
- Integrating the principle and process of just transition into NDC, discussing challenges, and the ways forward.
