Jamaica submitted its updated NDC in June 2020 with direct support from the World Bank and technical assistance through the Partnership’s Climate Action Enhancement Package, doubling its energy target and broadening the sectoral scope of its commitments. Jamaica launched its NDC Implementation Plan in September 2021 with support from the World Bank through Vivid Economics. The Government is currently receiving support through a facilitator embedded in the Ministry of Housing, Urban Renewal, Environment, and Climate Change (supported by the UK) and a senior advisor embedded in the Ministry of Science, Energy, and Technology (supported by the UK). Several partners have also been supporting the Government to develop its long-term strategy (LTS) through CAEP. The World Bank deployed an economic advisor to the Planning Institute of Jamaica to assist in aligning the country’s post-COVID-19 recovery with its long-term development plan (Vision 2030) and updated NDC. The French Development Agency is now assisting the Bank of Jamaica to identify and develop the relevant data and reporting templates to conduct climate-related risk assessments, and conduct stress tests for the impact of climate change on the financial sector. Jamaica has been acting as co-chair of the NDC Partnership together with the United Kingdom since January 2021.
