Regulatory Indicators for Sustainable Energy (RISE)

Developer or Source: World Bank

RISE is an online, interactive tool that provides governments and policymakers with ideas and data that allows them to strengthen their sustainable energy policies and frameworks as well as identify opportunities to attract investment. RISE is composed of empirical evidence that assesses the existence of policy and regulation in 133 countries to help provide an understanding of the investment environment in sustainable energy. The tool looks at three pillars of sustainable energy: energy efficiency, energy access, renewable energy. Within each pillar, there is also various indicators that are scored on a scale from 0 to 100. These scores provide a comprehensive picture of the strength of government support for sustainable energy in a particular country; the higher the score, the stronger the policies and actions of that country are. Users can choose to look at overall scores of country, scores for each pillar, or scores for a particular indicator.
