Country Engagement Specialist

John is a Country Engagement Specialist for Anglophone-Africa at the NDC-Partnership Support Unit. In his role, John supports countries to establish, strengthen and effectively utilize NDC implementation frameworks by coordinating technical and financial resources between development partners and the member countries.

Prior to joining the NDC Partnership, John worked for 8+ years on various climate topics. From an intern at the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn working on adaptation Impacts, Vulnerability and Risks, to a technical advisor at the German Development Agency (GIZ) guiding projects on carbon markets, climate finance, international climate policy (especially NDCs) and renewable energy policy. While at GIZ John supported the conceptualization and eventual establishment of a multi-country technical exchange platform called the “Eastern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance” which aims to capacitate member countries to fully harness carbon markets and climate finance for implementation of NDCs. The member countries include Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia and Sudan.

John holds an MSc. Environment and Resources Management from Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus Germany and a Bsc. Biological Sciences from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Mandela Washington Fellow of Public Management from University of California, Davis USA.
